Finding a unique restaurant to wine and dine at is more or less becoming impossible in the college based town of Gainesville. Mario’s Wine Bar & European Bistro is the latest fine dining hot spot Gainesville has to offer. It is located in Thornebrooke Village off of NW 43rd street. Mario’s offers superb European food and a variety of choice wines and German beers at a remarkably reasonable price. It also presents the atmosphere Gainesville has been missing while eating out; sophistication and tranquility.
Owners, Louisa and Mario recently arrived from Germany. They returned to the states so Louisa could finish her PHD in tourism at the University of Florida. “We had every intention of opening our very own bed and breakfast when arriving to the states, the idea of the bistro sort of fell into place in the mean time, however, our B&B idea is still and plan in action.” said Mario. Mario’s Bistro holds seating for about 60, inside and out. Because of the smaller size, the control of the restaurant is always in tact keeping the calm atmosphere present at all times. “The serenity is something our customers enjoy and want to keep coming back to,” said Louisa.
When walking up to Mario’s Bistro, you absorb the European culture; it definitely does not have the traditional look most other Gainesville restaurants display. The crisp smell of wine and freshly baked European bread intertwines throughout the building as you step inside. The faint sound of a European tune playing in the background is the vital feature that maintains the appropriate mood. When speaking with Executive Chef, Taylor Northcutt, he said in great confidence and admiration “My goal as the Chef is to give every individual a unique and memorable dining experience.”
Not only does Mario’s Bistro’s provide fine dining open to the public but it also offers the resources to cater out and in for private parties. “It is definitely a place worth visiting more then once, this is my third time here this week, my friends and I absolutely love it,” said one of the regulars. Mario’s Bistro supplies a very unique, set menu but always has different specials daily so you always have an assortment of choices. “I am so grateful to have found a place where I can go and relax with some friends and enjoy an always delicious yet different meal and a refreshing glass of my favorite wine,” said another satisfied customer.
